Engineering Q&A

Yes — Sakagami provides fee-paying testing and survey services for packings, including material analysis, environmental ageing, dynamic durability and forensic inspection of used seals returned from the field.

Available performance and material tests

Sakagami can run a wide range of laboratory and application-level tests to verify compound identity, physical properties and in-service behaviour. Commonly requested tests include:

  • Infrared spectrophotometer (FTIR) analysis for compound identification
  • Ultra-low-temperature testing chamber evaluation
  • Ozone testing machine — resistance to ozone cracking
  • Oscillation testing machine — dynamic seal performance
  • Durability test using the actual customer unit or fixture
  • Immersion testing in the target hydraulic oil or medium
  • Other performance and property tests on request

Surveys on actually used packings

If a used packing is returned by a customer, Sakagami can prepare a technical survey report describing its condition, wear mode and likely cause of failure. Some surveys may be fee-paying, depending on the scope and analysis required.

When to request a test or survey

  • You need to confirm the compound of a seal of unknown origin
  • A seal is failing prematurely and you need a root-cause assessment
  • You are qualifying a new material for an extreme temperature or medium
  • You need documented evidence for warranty, audit or design review

Frequently asked questions

Can we request performance and material tests and a survey on an actually used packing?
Yes, Sakagami provides fee-paying testing services using equipment such as an infrared spectrophotometer, ultra-low-temperature testing chamber, ozone testing machine, oscillation testing machine, durability test using an actual unit, immersion test and other performance and property tests. Reports on surveys of actually used packings returned by customers are also available; some surveys may be fee-paying. Contact info@sealparts.co.uk to coordinate a request.
