Prototype definition

Different prototypes answer different questions. Agreeing the purpose of each one avoids wasted iterations and misleading test results.

Visual prototype
Used to assess appearance and general geometry.
Fit and assembly sample
Used to confirm dimensions, clearances and installation.
Functional prototype
Used for preliminary sealing, movement or pressure trials.
Production-intent sample
Produced as closely as practical to the proposed final material and manufacturing method.

Prototype appearance is not the same as production performance

Some prototypes are intended only to confirm dimensions, appearance or assembly. They may not reproduce the chemical resistance, compression set, wear characteristics, pressure capability or service life of the final production component.

Can I order a single prototype seal?
Yes. A single fit or assembly sample is a normal starting point. We review the application, agree what the prototype needs to prove, and arrange one component before any tooling is committed.
What is the minimum quantity for small-batch seal production?
Small-batch supply typically covers tens or hundreds of components, including irregular and repeat schedules. There is no fixed minimum; the appropriate route depends on geometry, material and quantity.
Will a prototype seal perform like the production part?
Not always. Some prototypes confirm only dimensions, appearance or assembly and may not reproduce the chemical resistance, compression set, wear characteristics, pressure capability or service life of the final production component.
Can you reproduce an obsolete seal?
Yes. Send a physical sample, a photograph, or the groove and housing dimensions. We measure, define the profile and material, and produce an approval sample before any batch is made.
What do I need to send to start an enquiry?
A drawing, CAD file, photographs or a physical sample, plus whatever operating data you have — pressure, temperature, media, movement and quantities. You do not need every technical detail before contacting us.
